Chamomille is really useful for your health, this is how you should consume it

People today are inundated with information about all kinds of healthy remedies. The hard part is siphoning through the information and figuring out what is correct and truly useful.

Chamomile is one of the “truly useful” herbs. The U. S. National Library of Medicine has published findings on research that has been conducted on the medicinal use of chamomile, and listed below are 4 things in which it has shown definite medicinal properties.

  1. Cold. When the steam from German chamomile is inhaled and the tea is drunk, relief from common cold symptoms can be found.
  2. Infant Colic. For infants that struggle with colic, making a tea of German chamomile, vervain, licorice, fennel and balm mint and letting them drink it can give them relief.
  3. Eczema. Roman chamomile of the Manzana type is used to make Kamillosan(R), a topical cream used to treat eczema. This cream has been shown to reduce eczema better than typical hydrocortisone creams.
  4. Wound healing. Topical use of chamomile extract appears to help wounds heal faster and with less skin breakage than if you used nothing.

Here are some recipes you can try:

  1. Cold tea. To help fight the common cold, ‘‘Kid 101’’ recommends making a chamomile tea with lime and honey. Honey helps coat the throat, and the citrus helps break up the mucous. Once the tea is ready, inhale the steam while you’re waiting for it to cool.
  2. Infant tea. ‘‘The Happiest Baby’’ recommends adding dill to chamomile tea to help with infant colic. Mash 2 tablespoons of dill or fennel seed and place it in a mug. Fill the cup with hot water and let it steep for 10 minutes. You can also try adding some licorice and peppermint to the tea. Dr. Karp does note that you should never give a baby star anise.
  3. Sore throat popsicles. ‘‘Vanilla and Bean’’ mixes chamomile tea and honey together and pours it into popsicle holders. When you’re suffering from a sore throat, the cold and honey helps soothe the throat, and the chamomile is therapeutic.
  4. Eczema cream. If you don’t want to buy the cream mentioned above, you can try making your own.‘‘Healthy and Natural World’’ says to combine 2 to 3 drops of Roman chamomile essential oils with coconut oil to make the cream. Apply the ointment to the eczema two to three times daily.

Chamomile is an amazing herb on which mankind has yet to scratch the surface of what it may be able to do. Adding it to your home remedy arsenal is just plain wise.
