Fall Home Tour

Fall Home Tour

If you’re coming over from Perfectly Imperfect, we are welcoming you with big open arms and a great big bear hug! If you’re a regular here on the DIY Playbook, you still get the bear hug treatment, followed by an OMG I can’t wait to share the fall changes I recently made to my home.

My claim to fame for this year’s holiday tour?! Fall-ifying my home with ZERO traces of pumpkins, leaves or the “traditional” fall décor that most holiday projects are made of, well at least on the inside the house that is. Sayyyy whhaaaaatttt?! Is that even possible? I know right. #gasp

Blogger Stylin

Hold your pumpkin spice lattes people, I’m not saying I don’t love me some pumpkins, gourds, & traditional fall décor just as much as the next girl. What I’m saying is that I don’t have a BUDGET or the storage SPACE to buy up the entire fall aisle at Michael’s and transform my little ranch into a fall inspired cabin that graces the cozy cover page of Country Living. I WISH! So what’s a girl to do when her nautical home is being featured in a fall home tour series & she has no budget or storage space for fall décor? Quite the bloggin’ dilemma, right? Here’s what I did…

First, I panicked! Second, I called Casey and panicked some more. Third, I got my act together & finally came to terms that investing in traditional fall décor that is only limited to one season was not in my cards, & eventually came to the conclusion that that was okay! I decided that I’m going to make the BEST of what I got, adjust the color schemes with a few simple changes based on things I already had around the house, and create some art on a budget.

So that’s what we did. We used what we already had, ditched the blues and nautical inspired touches, all while creating a space that inspires us to tackle all this AMAZING season has to offer without breaking the bank. Oh, and we did break the rule of having absolutely zero traces of fall décor on the outside. But heck, mums are one of my favs- so I didn’t feel bad splurging.

Bridget's House Fall

I’m not totally sure what constitutes my changes as “fall”, all I know is that it just feels far more fall than what our home normally looks like. More oranges, more reds (which I NEVER have), more cozy blankets & a lantern here or there seem far more fall to me. And I guess LESS pieces of coral, less nautical art, and less blues help do the trick as well.

I plan on giving you all the scoop on this Target tandem bike art next week, but for now I’ll leave you with the basics. I rearranged my entire wall to add more rustic, fall-ish pieces all for under $60. All I bought to complete the new look was the tandem bike canvas & the material to make the frame that goes around it. The rest of the frames and décor were things I already owned, which meant FREE. Like that pallet sign for instance, remember it from our wedding pictures?

The guestroom isn’t screaming, “Hi, I’m FALL”, but it is far more fall than what the shelves usually look like. Less nautical and summer-y and more red, orange, and rustic now than ever before. I think… I certainly hope. Again, just by using what I already have from garage sales & thrift shops & overflow “stuff”, I was able to transform this space into on that hints at fall for FREE. Yup, F-R-E-E.

Same story for the laundry room, except this time we didn’t do the whole thing for FREE… more like for under $10. I purchased the Target Geometric Canvas Art to replace the bright blue one I had there before, but everything else I added was either a FREE printable or “art” I had around the house. A few colorful rolls of washi tape helped give this space the extra kick of color too. Not a bad turnaround for under ten bucks, huh?

And there you have it…. the fall home tour that does not have one pumpkin, gourd or gorgeous leaf print anywhere to be found. Although our changes don’t consist of tons of the latest, greatest holiday decor this season, I am proud to say that we were able to change up our home ON A BUDGET within our means and still LOVE the new look. I guess this season we learned that it’s not always about trying to buy the best or the most festive new “thing”, sometimes it’s challenging yourself to use what you already have & still make it work. I hope you too can challenge yourself to be creative with the items you do have, while still sprucing up your space to welcome this football weather in style!

Thanks so much for stopping by! Now, you HAVE to go check out what fall gorgeous-ness Emily from Decor Chick! is cooking up!
